John 1:1-5 (KJV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
The source of life is Jesus, but this life will only affect you if you believe in Him. Believing is a major part of life. If we live in unbelief, it will develop a negative attitude. Believing is what gives life to what you know and establishes a positive attitude to life.
We all operate from what we believe, not what we know. Just because we know something does not mean that we believe it. If we do not believe it, it will not work for us.
There are people today who do things to their bodies, knowing that it is deteriorating their health, but they continue to do it because they do not believe that it will harm them, such as smoking, drinking, drugs, wrong eating, etc.
We knowingly do things that will deteriorate our health, but in spite of what we know, we continue to do it. The question is why do we continue to do it? The answer is because we do not believe that it will harm us.
This is from a negative position, but from the positive side, we all have the ability to believe beyond what our circumstances dictate to us.
The fact is, we begin to overcome in life by simply believing.
John’s gospel states that the word carries life, and this life gives light to men. The purpose for light is to be able to see. Once light shines on darkness, or what has been darkened in our minds, it exposes everything that it contains. Light gives illumination to what we cannot see.
We all have potential to succeed in life, but if our understanding is darkened to what that potential is, we will limit ourselves. Believing must be cultivated for us to impact our lives. Once we make the decision to believe, we uncap our potential.
In the word of God lie all the answers to how we are to function in life. If we choose to believe what God has promised us in His word, life and creativity will begin.
Man was mandated by God to produce. Adam made a decision to disobey what God mandated and the results were a redirected belief. Man became darkened in his understanding and began to live outside of the boundaries God set for man’s success.
Genesis 6:5 (KJV)
5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Notice what transpired because of how they began to believe; their imagination was evil continually. Imagination is what cultivates our beliefs. Now, this was from a negative belief system, but, the principle is still the same. Whatever you set your mind to believe is what you will achieve.
When we set our minds to believe that we will never have enough, or say that because my parents had a specific type of disease or sickness, I am going to be challenged with the same thing; we are cultivating our imagination to believe that we receive the negative. This is a negative mental attitude.
Jesus wants us to believe in Him and the words that He has spoken.
Mark 9:23 (KJV)
23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
Jesus stated that all things are possible to him that believes. Believing what God has promised you will give light to your potential. Jesus addressed the father’s potential to believe for his son’s deliverance. His son’s freedom depended on the ability to believe the words of Jesus. The question proposed to this man from Jesus was the ability to believe.
Jesus was only tapping into what was already present in the man and that is the ability to believe. The man already had the desire for his son’s freedom, but it was going to take believing to activate his faith for his son’s healing.
The word was speaking to this man’s need and it required believing in the word for the power of God to manifest on his behalf. This man made the choice to believe what Jesus said, and his son was made whole.
Mark 9:24-27 (KJV)
24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
Make a daily commitment to read your Bible and chose to believe what God has promised you and act in faith on what you believe, and you will experience the blessings of God.
